YOUTH SERVICE TEAM

What is the Youth Service Team?
The Youth Service Team is a service team for Explorer Scouts aged 14-17. Currently you must be an invested member of the Scouts to join the Youth Service Team. Once you turn 18, if you wish to continue volunteering at our sites, you will need to become part of the Adult Volunteer Team.
What do the Youth Service Team do?
Support the Activity Center's to service the sites and support activity provision to guests visiting the centers. Duties vary each weekend depending on a variety of factors such as the weather, time of year, who is staying, if there are larger events taking place. You could find yourself helping in the providore, supporting activities to guests, general site maintenance and much more!
Who can join the Youth Service Team?
Any Youth Member of The Scouts aged over 14.
When do the Youth Service Team meet?
The Youth Service Team at each center has its own weekend in the month when it meets. Often the Youth Service Team will be asked to support other large events at other centers. So there may be times when you are asked to support an additional weekend in the month as a volunteer.
Where do the Youth Service Team meet?
The Youth Service Team meets on one weekend each month at each of our Centers. Each Youth Service Team is led by a team of Adult volunteers from Hertfordshire Scouts who are experienced leaders in supporting Young People. All are DBS’d and have completed their required training by The Scouts.
Why Explorers would want to get involved with the Youth Service Team?

You might like to get involved for a variety of reasons:

  • It's something you’re interested in and would like to try

  • You are working towards your Chief Scouts Award or Kings Scout Award and are looking to complete your service.

  • You want to complete your Activity Center Service badge.

  • You want something different to do at the weekends.

Regular volunteering on our service team will give you some great experience to add to your cv, provides some practical work experience, provides additional team work opportunities and can help make you more employable in the future.

Which leaders run each Service Team at each centre?
Each Center has a different team of adults who volunteer their time to run the Youth Service Team weekends. Sometimes people will be at different centers as demand requires, therefore you may see them at any of the centers. The leader teams are:
