About

The outdoors is still open, so join us once again for the Hertfordshire Scout Network's Winter Walking Week.

We have the same walking goals as last year: -

  • The individual Best - Who's walked the furthest each day and overall?

  • The Daily Bonus Task - Top up your mileage by undertaking one of the daily challenges! New challenges will be announced throughout the week.

  • The Grand Total - How far can we walk together?

This year we shall be doing a joint group walk on Saturday 5th March. Even if you can't walk during the week you can still join everyone for a stroll and contribute to the grand total of the week.

Just like last year, collect evidence of how far you have walked each day along with photos and videos of your daily tasks. Upload your evidence at the end each day before 7.30pm. Results will be posted in the Facebook group around 9.30pm each day.

Keep up to date on your progress by joining us on Wednesday for a live update. Then on Sunday come along to the virtual fireside celebration where we'll share the results from the week's challenges.

If that is not enough you can join the Network Virtual Walking Week Facebook group and share your pictures and comments with others!

Hey! I'm your score keeper. Move over Rachel Riley!

For each day of the walking week we encourage you to go for a walk. It could be as long or as short as you like. Each day we will announced who has walked the furthest, but even if you just walk to the end of the road...it all counts towards everyone's total for the week.

You should track your walk on a Fitness App, GPS or pedometer.

You don't have to wear your uniform when you walk, but a scarf or hoodie might be a nice idea.

We want you to be safe on your walk so please follow the Country Code and read our written Risk Assessment. Remember to follow the government guidelines for exercise in your area, especially as these could change through the week.

This years tasks will be published on the Herts Network YouTube Channel. This will allow you to see first hand what the task involves. Make sure you subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon so you are notified when new tasks are available.

We will release the first set of tasks at the launch meeting on 27 February. Then again on 2 and 4 March.

This year there are two types of task worth a set amount of added mileage to your days walking. Easy tasks add 5km and Hard tasks add 10km. You can only do one task per day. So choose wisely!

Make sure you take photos or videos of the your tasks and include them when you submit your evidence for your day. That way we can verify them.
